Jonathan Bailey was world renown for his jewelry designs.
The late Jonathan Bailey was world renowned for his jewelry designs.

During his lifelong career as a jewelry designer, Jonathan Bailey won four international awards. Fashion models wore his creations on the pages of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and Women’s Wear Daily. Jonathan Bailey moved from New York to Princess Anne in 1985 where he and his wife Melissa opened Bailey Jewelers and began crafting gold jewelry with Eastern Shore motifs. Using a complicated lost wax process, Jonathan sculpted jewelry in the shapes of crabs, oysters, workboats, skipjacks and rockfish.

His wife, Melissa Bailey of Princess Anne, won first place and runner up in the Student Category of a Tri-State Jewelry Design Contest held in Washington, D. C. in 1991. Four criteria were used in the judging: craftsmanship, creativity, wearability, and marketability. Melissa’s first place entry was an exquisite 14k yellow gold opal pendant called "Calla Lily Spring." Her second place entry was a 14k yellow gold citrine ring called "Splendid Rays." Melissa has been a licensed gemologist with the Gemological Institute of America since 1989.

After Jonathan Bailey died in October 1995, Melissa married a friend of the family's whom she and Jonathan knew from church, Frank White. She believes "The Lord provided Frank for our family."

The Bailey-White Family: Melissa Bailey-White, Frank White, Jonathan and Joel Bailey. The boys were helping out during the Skipjack races in Deal Island.

Frank White grew up in Snow Hill and moved to Princess Anne in 1995, where he was elected a Town Commissioner in June 2002. Frank is a certified goldsmith. He graduated from the Richmond School of Jewelers in 1996, and he and Melissa are both members of the Jewelers Of America.

Together Frank White and Melissa Bailey-White have continued the tradition of crafting Eastern Shore icons in gold and gems as Jonathan Bailey began doing in 1985. They have been commissioned by the Ward Wildfowl Association to create a line of duck jewelry. They show their work at the Crisfield Crab Derby and the Deal Island Skipjack Races. Until now, their handcrafted Chesapeake Collection has been exclusive, available only at Bailey-White Jewelers in Princess Anne, Maryland. Frank and Melissa are pleased to be able to offer part of the collection to you here on the World Wide Web.
